Porcelain Benjamin Franklin Bust Stolen From Montgomery County Home Recovered, Suspect Arrested
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A former housekeeper was arrested for stealing a rare bust of Benjamin Franklin valued at more than $3 million from a Main Line home.
Andrea Lawton was arrested Friday as she got off a Greyhound bus in Maryland.
Police say she was carrying the bust in a sack with the intention of selling it on the black market. The art treasure was stolen last month from a Bryn Mawr home where Lawton worked briefly as a cleaning woman before being fired.
Police say the bust was damaged in the burglary.
Lawton is currently being detained at the Federal Detention Center awaiting court appearances in both federal and county court.
