Old City Street Repaving Continues, Sometimes Befuddling Motorists

By Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Drivers in Old City, beware!  Numbered streets from Front to Fourth are being closed at various times for repaving, and it's expected to continue for a few more weeks at least.

The rewards will be worth it, but the process is a pain, according to businessmen along North Third Street, where paving has just been completed.

"It's kind of annoying," says Charlie (no last name given), who runs Lake Blue Gourmet Market, at 8 North Third, "and people wonder, 'When are they going to finish it up?'  So it's finally finished and we like it."

The next group of streets to get the treatment include Front Street from Dock Street to Market; Second, from Walnut to Market; and 3rd and 4th from South to Chestnut.

Milling and resetting utility boxes will be done during the day. The paving itself will be done from 4pm to 11 pm.  Roads may close and parking may be restricted during that time.

If your car gets towed, the police can tell you where to find it.  Call the 6th District station at 215-686-3060.
