PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - On Thursday, the Drexel Convenient Care Center in the Shops at Liberty Place in Center City will offer free skin checks to see what toll the summer sun took on your skin.
“After summer is a great time because everybody has been on vacation already,” Nurse Practitioner Diana Lengel says. “They’ve been out in the sun, so it’s a good time to bring everybody in and see what is happening with their skin.”
Lengel says skin cancers account for nearly half of all cancers in this country.
“A full body exam is the best way to screen for skin cancer,” she said. “Of course melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer, is on the rise and. If detected early, there’s a good chance it will not have spread to the surrounding tissues.”
You can get a free skin check at the clinic between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. No appointment is needed.
Lengel suggests people have such an exam once a year.
