Two Adults Arrested For Smoking Crack Outside Upper Darby School

By Molly Daly

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) - Two adults were arrested outside Beverly Hills Middle School in Upper Darby, Pa. Wednesday, charged with drug possession and criminal trespass.

It was early afternoon, and school was in session, when Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood says security cameras showed two adults where they shouldn't have been.

"Police were called, the police responded, and they found a male and a female sitting on the bleachers, and as police approached, they threw something behind the bleachers. We retrieved a bag of crack cocaine, and a bag of heroin. We also retrieved a pipe that was used to smoke the crack," he said.

Jennifer Smith and Thomas Payne, Jr. were arrested and charged. Chitwood says this is an unusual situation.

"To use a school playground is kind of an interesting dynamic. Normally they stay away from school playgrounds."
