West Chester Visits Kutztown Looking For Third Straight Win

By Matt Leon

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) -- The West Chester Golden Rams begin a run of three straight key road games on Saturday as they visit PSAC foe Kutztown.

West Chester is 2-1. This past weekend they dismantled Millersville 56-14 as senior quarterback Mike Mattei tied a school record with six touchdown passes.

"We wanted to accomplish a couple things (against) Millersville," West Chester head coach Bill Zwaan tells KYW Newsradio. "One was to build some confidence in our quarterback, give Mike Mattei a little confidence and that worked out. We had a couple receivers banged up, so we had some younger guys who played and they did a really good job. So that was a real positive. And we wanted to keep playing good defense, which we did."

As for Kutztown, they come into this game with a 1-2 record, but Zwaan says they keep the scoreboard operator busy.

"They can score a lot of different ways, and they are mainly a really good throwing football team. They've got a lot of talented skill position kids who, if you give them a chance, they'll make you miss a tackle and get in the end zone. So you've got to be prepared to go up and score with them."

The numbers back Zwaan up as Kutztown is averaging almost 47 points and 389 yards passing a game.

After this visit to Kutztown, West Chester takes to the road to battle California (PA) and East Stroudsburg in a stretch that will most likely determine the direction the Golden Rams season will take.

West Chester and Kutztown kick-off at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday.
