PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Just as Autumn’s about to arrive, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Fall Festival happens this Saturday, from 9am to 5pm at the Navy Yard. If you’ve had a bumper crop this year, bring your biggest veggies and most beautiful fall flower arrangements to compete in the harvest contests. Since fall is the best time to get things in the ground, you’ll find everything from flower bulbs to perennials, trees, and shrubs as well as all kinds of garden goodies, gadgets and tools to buy.
The festival’s open to everyone, but if you’re a PHS member or join that day, you get to take home a free plant too. There’s fun stuff for kids – like veggie races with zooming zucchini – and for grown ups, there’s a Biergarten.
Or you can just soak up the atmosphere at this free Fall Festival with a double-decker bus tour of the Navy Yard to see how this historic place has been transformed, while drinking in the incomparable river views.
