PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It’s a second chance for a dilapidated North Philadelphia football field, courtesy of Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.
The Team Vick Foundation is donating the final $200,000 toward a $1 million restoration of the muddy football field at Hunting Park.
“We want to continue to build up the community,” Vick said. “This city gave me an opportunity for a second chance – gave me an opportunity to come back and play football. And it will never be forgotten.”
For North Philly Aztecs coach Jeremiah Berry, it means the kids on his Pop Warner team will finally get to play next year’s home games at home for the first time in 19 years.
“Right now,” Berry said, “to get a field to call our own, it’s like the moon and the stars are aligning and everything was just meant to be!”
The football field upgrade follows improvements to the Park’s baseball fields and tennis courts.
