PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphians will join people from around the world on Friday in marking the International Day of Peace.
Discussions, plays and concerts are scheduled for September 21, the United Nations’ annual Day of Peace.
In Philadelphia, a ceremony at Love Park features poet laureate Sonia Sanchez.
Peace Day Philly coordinator Lisa Parker says Friday at noon, the ceremony will join in a worldwide minute of silent contemplation.
“If we are quiet in our own minds and in our own hearts, even just for a minute, we can connect to the peace that is within all of us. And we can also reflect on the fact that we share that connection with everyone around the planet,” says Parker.
Other Peace Day activities include a walk against gun violence, an interfaith children’s festival and even a legal cease fire encouraging lawyers to resolve differences.
