Man Pleads Guilty, Gets 25-50 Years For Stabbing Girlfriend To Death

By Tony Hanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A mother stands up in court to clear the name of her murdered daughter, stabbed to death last year by her live-in boyfriend in Kensington. He pleaded guilty Thursday in exchange for a 25-50 year sentence.

Kelvin Rivera, 25, murdered his live-in girlfriend, Zakimah Forde, stabbing her. Afterward, Rivera stuffed her body in a trash bag, then a suitcase, before he walked to a police station and confessed. But he claimed she provoked him and that he caught her in a compromising situation on the Internet.

But the prosecutor says there was no evidence of that on the computer and Malikan Forde spoke to help her daughter rest with her good name.

"The original statements that were given that smeared by daughter's name were not true and I wish to go on the record and let everybody knows who had read in the past the allegations he had made were incorrect and a way for to try to make himself distance from what he had done."

Other than admitting guilt, the defendant did not speak in court.
