PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A mother is in custody after police say she stabbed her son several times inside their Frankford home.

Authorities say the incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. at a home in the 1200 block of Pratt Street.

The victim, a 16-year-old male, was stabbed multiple times allegedly by his mother, police say. The teen was transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital in serious condition.

The boy’s mother was taken into police custody.

At this time it is unclear what prompted the stabbing.

The incident remains under investigation.
