HADDONFIELD, NJ (CBS) -- New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was in Haddonfield, New Jersey on Monday speaking to some high school students. He talked briefly about the arrest of the Trenton Mayor.
Governor Christie said he knows Trenton Mayor Tony Mack and likes him on a personal level, but he adds that this is disheartening.
"It's a tragedy when any public official gets arrested. It diminishes the public's confidence in that government. My understanding, at least from what I read in press accounts, is that he was charged on a criminal complaint, so I won't have anything to say about his status unless and until he's indicted by a grand jury," Christie said.
Christie also said that if the allegations are true, it would be deeply disturbing and a complete violation of the public trust.
