PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Phillies are a 9th inning meltdown away from being a perfect 4-0 on this six game roadtrip against two of the National League’s best teams in Atlanta and Cincinnati. As it is, Phils are still 3-1 even with Sunday’s painful loss in Atlanta.
Charlie Manuel’s squad opened their three-game stay in Cincinnati with yesterday’s 4-2 win behind right-hander Tyler Cloyd. Tonight they give the ball to another right-hander, Kyle Kendrick.
Kendrick has been on a real roll as of late. He is 4-0 in his last four starts with a 1.23 ERA. That has helped him improve his overall mark here in 2012 to 8-9 and lower his ERA to 4.01. Kendrick is 3-1 in six career games against the Reds (5 starts) with a 5.40 ERA.
Cincinnati will give the ball to right-hander Mat Latos in this one. He is 11-4 with a 3.79 ERA in 2012, but he has yet to beat the Phillies in his career. Latos is 0-2 in four career starts against Philadelphia with a 4.03 ERA.
The Phillies are 65-70 heading into tonight, they are 8 games out of a wildcard berth.
