PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - An 11-year-old from Germantown Friends School is holding a fundraiser Sunday night at 6 p.m. to help kids across the world.
Maya Esberg learned about St. Rita Community Based Orphan Care in school when her teacher asked the class to raise money to help the children. She says the kids in that orphanage in Kenya were so appreciative they sent a thank you note with pictures.
“Sitting in their back yard in their old dirty clothes looking so ratty and sad and it just made me so sad and it really, really moved me to want to raise money for them and help them in any way I could,” Esberg says.
She’s putting on a concert and silent auction at the Ace Club in Lafayette Hill and hopes to raise at least $2,000.
