Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Boston
By Jay Lloyd
BOSTON, Mass. (CBS) -- "Old Ironsides," the world's oldest floating warship still in commission, went for a spin around Boston Harbor recently to celebrate its battles during the War of 1812.
It's a reminder that Boston is an exciting town for a fun getaway.
Steeped in history, with colonial neighborhoods, great restaurants, and waterfront attractions, Boston is a town rooted in the sea.
Visitors find excitement just getting from the airport to the city by water taxi.
"It's different -- you're in touch with nature, you can almost taste the sea," said one visitor. We enjoyed being dropped at our waterfront hotel, the Seaport, then just strolling the town.
Walk the Freedom Trail from Old North Church and the Paul Revere house to the Charlestown Navy Yard for a tour of "Old Ironsides." Then take in the Bunker Hill monument.
Hop a water taxi and head for the aquarium. Then, by evening, try a dinner at Legal Seafood, a Boston staple that has branched out.
Boston offers theatre and shopping, and of course the original "Cheers" bar, on Beacon Street.
You can cover a lot of ground in just a few days!
