Andy Reid Says Foles Is #2, As Of Right Now

By Ed Benkin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Eagles close out their preseason schedule with a home game against the Jets and Andy Reid announced he would rest his top unit.  Other veterans such as Jason Avant and Joselio Hanson will also have the night off.  Reid believes it will open up the door for several young players fighting to make the roster.

"It's a great opportunity for these guys," said Reid.  "They were told when they came here they were going to have an opportunity to play.  If they make our team, then more power to them.  If they don't, it gives them more of an opportunity to catch on with somebody else."

Mike Kafka is still sidelined with a broken hand and will not play on Thursday.  Nick Foles will play the first quarter while Trent Edwards will be under center over the final three periods.  Reid said Kafka's injury is still limiting what he can do on the field.

"I've got enough time in with him to make that evaluation," Reid said.  "The main thing for him right now is it's (the broken hand) is still tender.  It's best that we hold him out."

Reid also said that as of right now, Foles is his number two quarterback.  Foles said he is settling in each day with the playbook.

"I feel really comfortable," said Foles.  "It's going to take a lot of time, but I feel comfortable with the game plan going in."
