Search Continues For Suspects In Sexual Assault Of 11-Year-Old Girl In West Philadelphia

By Robin Rieger

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The investigation continued on Sunday into the alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl on Saturday night in West Philadelphia.

According to Philadelphia Police, the alleged attack occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the back of an abandoned property along the 4100 block of Cambridge Street. Authorities say they are looking for a pair of suspects, two men between 20 and 30 years old.

The alleged assault has many in the neighborhood on edge.

"I don't think I want my children at the park anymore," says Geneva Walker. "I just can't do it, I can't have it on my mind."

On Sunday afternoon, police say officers in the area chased down and arrested a man wanted on a probation violation from a previous sexual assault of a child. Police could not confirm if the man has any connection to the alleged attack on the 11-year-old in this case. Neighbors are hoping both suspects are caught quickly.

"Do these people ever stop to think about what if this was their child", Walker says.

Police have not released details on where the girl was prior to the alleged attack, but neighbors say there was a block party nearby that was wrapping up.

Both men are described as dark complected black males, one wearing black cargo pants and a white t-shirt, the other in a yellow shirt and light blue jeans.

Police say the victim was treated at the hospital and released.

"I just thank God the little girl wasn't hurt or she wasn't dead, 'cause they could have killed her," Walker says.
