NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) – Police have arrested a New Castle area man after discovering he had stolen 22 shopping cart bottoms valued at over $2,000.

The metal cart bottoms were taken from the Pathmark lot in Airport Plaza back on July 31st, but the theft wasn’t reported until Aug. 7th, when employees discovered the bottoms missing in a stack of carts behind the store.

Police launched an investigation that resulted in the arrest of Charles R. Whyte, 62, of Minquadale Boulevard.

Whyte was charged with Felony Theft and was released pending a preliminary hearing.

A second suspect has yet to be arrested and identified.
