PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Many people in the Philadelphia area are scrambling to buy lottery tickets before Saturday’s big drawing.
After 22 people narrowly missed winning the Powerball jackpot on Wednesday night, the jackpot jumped to an estimated $253 million. That’s an estimated take-home cash value of $170.5 million.
This is the second largest jackpot of 2012. In February, a woman in Rhode Island won over $336 million.
New Jersey boasted three of the tickets that just missed winning on Wednesday. Each of those ticket-holders claimed $1 million for matching the first five of the six numbers needed to win.
The odds of winning the jackpot are an estimated 1 in 175.2 million.
