Fire Officials: Hoarding A Hindrance In Deadly Chester County Blaze

By Al Novack, Steve Beck, Anne Marie Green

WEST GOSHEN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) – Two elderly residents were killed in a house fire in Chester County Friday morning. Neighbors told Eyewitness News that the victims were hoarders.

The fire started at about 7 a.m. inside a home in the 1200 block of Gail Road in West Goshen Township.

According to fire officials, the blaze reached two alarms before being fully placed under control in approximately an hour.

Fire officials said one body was found in the rear of the home and the second body was found in a front bedroom.

The victims were not immediately identified.

Prior to the deadly fire, township officials and the Department For Aging had been in contact with the elderly residents in an attempt to clean up the home.

Fire officials said the sheer volume of the items in the home made it difficult to battle the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
