Artist Designs Light Show For Ben Franklin Parkway

By Michelle Durham

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Benjamin Franklin Parkway is going to be lit up like never before. An artist has helped design an interactive light show that will be visible for miles around.

Artist Rafael Lozano Hemmer spent time in the city not only to scout out the location logistics but to talk to people to get a feel for Philly.

"A very large array of 24 search lights that scan the sky. Except instead of just the search lights that you might find at the Olympics, they are actually moving to represent the voices of the participants. So basically if you are quiet there is nothing to see, and as you speak the lights actually react in intensity and position."

Meryl Levitz from the Greater Philadelphia Marketing and Tourism Corporation says everyone will have a chance to chime in.

"They will be creating giant three-dimensional light sculptures in the sky that can even be seen ten miles away. It is truly spectacular!"

The light show will be on from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. each night from September 20th til October 14th.
