Foreclosure Review Program Deadline Extended

By Michelle Durham

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - For homeowners who may have wrongfully lost their home to foreclosure, the deadline to apply for an independent review process has just been extended to December 31st. And a U.S. Senator is trying to get the word out.

As of December 2010, there were almost 37,000 homeowners in foreclosure in the Keystone State.

Senator Bob Casey explains who is eligible for the review, "The individual would have to have had the property securing the loan was the borrower's primary residence. Number two, the mortgage would have had to have been in process, initiated, pending or completed in the calendar year 2009 or 2010. Thirdly, the mortgage service would have to have been serviced by one of 27 entities."

Casey says of the nearly 95,000 eligible, only 4,396 households have requested a review. The review would determine whether financial injury has occurred during the foreclosure process. If so, the borrower would be entitled to compensation or other remedies regardless of whether they are still in the home.
