Female To Be On NFL Officiating Crew For The First Time

By Spike Eskin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – There will be history made when the Green Bay Packers and San Diego Chargers play in an NFL pre-season game on Thursday. The game itself probably won't stand out in any record books, but the officials will.

According to the LA Times Sam Farmer, Shannon Eastin will be the first female to be on an NFL officiaiting crew during the game.

NFL officials are currently involved in a labor dispute with the league, and are in the midst of a work stoppage.

According to Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports, "Eastin has worked Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference games as well as the Arizona Cardinals' Red and White game, and the [LA] Times had previously identified her as one of the referees at an NFL training clinic."
