PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A man died after police say he was shot a dozen times in Philadelphia early Thursday morning.
The shooting happened at about 12:30 a.m. at 23rd and Mifflin Streets in the city’s Point Breeze section.
According to investigators, a 22-year-old male was shot 12 times and was pronounced dead a short time later at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
“We know there were many shots fired. We found 15 fired cartridge casings from a semi-automatic handgun. We found several projectiles, including the victim’s blood,” Chief Inspector Scott Small explained.
Police said a suspect was taken into custody not too far from the shooting scene.
Detectives are trying to determine if the incident was caught by any of the surveillance cameras in the area.
The motive was not immediately known. The deadly shooting remains under police investigation.
