Vineland Man Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Vehicle, Leading Police In Chase

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) - A 30-year-old man is in police custody after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading police in a chase in Gloucester County Monday afternoon.

A little before 6:30 p.m., Vineland Police discovered a stolen vehicle with an armed driver near West Boulevard and alerted Gloucester County dispatch.

Franklin Township Police responded to the scene and located the vehicle, a 2000 silver Acura, which was involved in a carjacking early Monday and reported stolen by Vineland Police.

Patrol units discovered the vehicle inside the parking lot of Gonzalez Park on Malaga Park Drive. An officer tried to apprehend the suspect, later identified as Moses Rios, who was sitting in the car, but he allegedly sped off.

Additional units were requested to stop the vehicle, but police say Rios sped away, heading North on Malaga Park Drive toward Delsea Drive. While trying to turn, police say Rios crashed into a tree on the northbound shoulder of Delsea Drive.

Rios, who is from Vineland, New Jersey, was taken into custody and airlifted to Cooper Medical Center for injuries sustained during the crash.

Rios was wanted in Vineland on robbery, carjacking, and related offenses. Additional charges are pending in Franklin Township pending an investigation, including Eluding, Possession of a stolen vehicle and numerous traffic offenses.
