PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police Internal Affairs has taken over the investigation into a pre-dawn home invasion and break-in in the Andorra section of Philadelphia in which an off-duty cop killed one of two suspected bandits.
Investigators say two men targeted a home in the 8200 block of Sagamore Road at about 4 a.m. But the suspects got more then they expected. The homeowner is an off-duty cop.
The officer reportedly grabbed a gun and fatally shot one of the two intruders. The other suspect fled in the officer’s car and was arrested a short time later in Springfield, Montgomery County.
Authorities say neither the officer and or anyone inside the home were hurt.
Police expect to release additional details later today.
