Eagles Training Camp Opens With Promise

By Ed Benkin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Eagles were on the practice field today for their first day of workouts at Lehigh.

Rookies such as first round draft choice Fletcher Cox were happy to be on the field for the first day of practice.  Cox says he understands the high expectations surrounding the Eagles this season. "You could see the expectation level at the OTA's," he said.  "Everybody has high energy and everybody was ready to go out and attack."

While Cox is a top draft choice, wide receiver Tiger Jones is hoping to make the team as a free agent.  The former standout for the Philadelphia Soul is excited to get a chance to try out for an NFL team in the same city. "I love Philly," Jones said.  "Philly fans are just wild and it's a crazy atmosphere.  You love it when you're playing for them."

The pads won't come on until the end of the week when the full squad is at Lehigh, but Offensive Coordinator Marty Mornhinweg says the players will still be tested in the first week. "Nothing is easy ," he said.  "You have to start from scratch.  It's fundementals and techniques and day one installation, and you go back through all of the details."
