KINGWOOD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — The Hunterdon County Medical Examiner has positively identified a body recovered from the Delaware River earlier this week as a teen who disappeared Wednesday while on a tubing trip.
Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III, said Friday that a body found by divers is that of 16-year-old Jamire Gist of Willingboro.
Kearns says the teen was with two 13-year-old boys and three adult counselors from the Marlton Family Guidance Center, when he became separated from his tube. Police say Girst was attempting to swim upstream to retrieve it when he went underwater.
Police divers recovered his body Thursday in 8 feet of water.
Investigators say none in the party had a flotation device on.
Police say a counselor waived down a bicyclist and used his cellphone to call 911.
