PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – What’s more important, a great young left-handed pitcher for the Phillies, or a stud defenseman for the Flyers?
I’m aware that one of these situations has nothing to do with the other. I’m aware this is completely hypothetical. But it’s mid-July, the Phillies are 14 games out of first place, the Eagles don’t start camp until Sunday, and I just can’t talk about Kwame Brown anymore.
Here’s the scenario: you have a choice. the Flyers offer-sheet for Shea Weber is not matched by the Predators, and the orange and black get the help they need on defense OR Cole Hamels accepts the six-year, $130 million offer from the Phillies.
If you choose Weber, Hamels just walks, no trade. If you choose Hamels, the Flyers do not add a big-time defenseman before the season starts.
