PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The pop hit “Call Me Maybe” is well on its way to being the summer song of 2012. The performer was relatively unknown in the U.S., but parodies of the tune are among the most-viewed on YouTube.

Former Canadian Idol contestant Carly Rae Jepsen’s catchy single “Call Me Maybe” spawned hundreds of covers and millions of YouTube views.

Sean Ross is a radio trends columnist and VP of Jersey-based media company, Edison Research.

“The YouTube videos give it a life of its own. There’s not an album out yet so that gives people something else to latch on to”

People are latching on to the tune of over 160 million views online.

“Call Me Maybe” has already been covered by several well-known artists, including Katy Perry, Big Time Rush, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and parodied by the Cookie Monster, The Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, the Harvard Baseball Team, and star wars.
