PHILADELPHIA (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama is getting ready to announce what the White House says are “public and private sector commitments” to improve children’s health as part of her initiative to combat childhood obesity.
She is making the announcement in Philadelphia, where the U.S. Conference of Mayors is having its annual leadership meeting.
The first lady is seeking broader participation in her “Let’s Move!” effort to improve healthy eating and fitness, especially for young people.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter is slated to attend the event Wednesday, along with about a dozen mayors of other cities nationwide that have established programs to encourage healthy eating and exercise.
