Robbery Suspect Arrested After Being Trapped Inside Center City Jewelry Store

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A 33-year-year-old man was arrested after he was caught on camera allegedly trying to steal from a Center City jewelry store on Monday.

The incident happened at about 9:15 a.m. at D&T Jewelers on South 8th Street.

The surveillance footage shows the suspect, who police have identified as 33-year-old Victor Guzman-Perez, of the 1300 block of Juniper Street, walk into the jewelry store, close the door behind him, then tase the store owner Tim Doan, according to police.

The suspect then allegedly tased the second employee. Both the owner and the employee fought back and were able to flee the store, locking the suspect inside. Police arrived minutes later and arrested Guzman-Perez.

It turns out, the suspect wore a disguise. Doan says it wasn't until later he realized the suspect was someone he knew and helped to get back on his feet.

Guzman-Perez is charged with aggravated assault, robbery, attempted theft, simple assault and related offenses.
