Driver Arraigned After Off-Duty Philly Cop On Bicycle Is Killed

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia man faces charges of homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter after he allegedly ran down an off-duty police officer who previously dated his girlfriend.

Thirty-five-year-old Kareem Alleyne was arraigned Tuesday, a day after police say he intentionally hit Officer Marc Brady with his car in the city's Mount Airy neighborhood.

Investigators say Alleyne swerved and struck Brady as he rode his bike late Sunday night.

Homicide detectives say there was "bad blood" between the two men because Alleyne was dating Brady's ex.

Alleyne was released on bail early Tuesday. Online court records don't list an attorney for him and no phone listing could immediately be located.

Authorities say the two men had a chance encounter but Alleyne targeted Brady after spotting him.
