HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) – A Philadelphia-based cyber charter school, under scrutiny from state education officials, has agreed to shut down.
The state education secretary announced late Thursday afternoon that the board of trustees of Philadelphia-based Frontier Virtual Charter School voted to voluntarily surrender the school’s charter.
In January, the education department notified Frontier’s administration that it would conduct a routine site visit in March. But, when department staff made that visit, they were not given access to the school’s records and were not permitted to interview school personnel.
Sometime after that, Frontier abruptly terminated its principal and teaching staff.
The education department sought to revoke Frontier’s charter for, among other reasons, failure to properly monitor student attendance, progress, truancy and grades.
