Some NJ Residents Spend July 4th Still Without Power

By Mike DeNardo

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (CBS) - It wasn't much of a 4th of July for the thousands of people still without electricity from the weekend storms.

Utility crews in Mays Landing spent their holiday repairing power lines that were ripped down by falling tree limbs in last Friday's storms.

Lisa Strother spent her 4th of July pretty much in the same place she's spent the last five days.

"On my screened-in back porch with a battery-operated fan."

For Sherri Betts, the 4th of July was the same as the Third, and the Second, and the First.

"No electric. It stinks, but whatever. The poles are coming back up so that's promising."

But Sherri wasn't going to let a fifth day without electricity ruin her holiday. She was making plans to go to the shore.
