Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Enjoy the Beach at Cape May Point

By Jay Lloyd

CAPE MAY POINT, Nj. (CBS) -- Do you want to avoid the crowds and chaos of a beach getaway with the kids? KYW's Jay Lloyd may have the solution.

Imagine going to a sun drenched beach without the kids being lured by a cacophony of boardwalk dollar traps, junk food and distractions that sap your energy and drain the pocket.

Try Cape May Point.

You'll not only find a beach, but a fascinating lighthouse to climb, a bird sanctuary, well laid out nature trails and a totally relaxing environment.

Thanks to the fact that this is also a New Jersey state park, you have rest rooms and parking.

When the kids were old enough, we found that the flat terrain between our hotel in Cape May and Cape May Point was ideal for getting there by bicycle.

About another mile down the road brings us to Sunset Beach with a refreshment stand, a chance to pluck Cape May Diamonds from the sand, watch artists and fishermen while contemplating the hulk of a partially sunken World War One concrete ship.

It's something very different, down the shore.
