Mid-Week 4th Of July Complicates Vacation Plans

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you can't get the full week away from work, what days are you taking off to celebrate Independence Day since the holiday falls right in the middle of two weekends?  Folks relaxing by the fountain in Love Park discussed their plans.

"I feel like this has never happened before," one woman said. "It's weird. I mean, what are we supposed to do?"

Some say they don't really know why, but they're planning to take vacation the weekend after the fourth.

"I'm not sure. I just have a lot of vacation days and I figure I'll take them after verses before just to make the weekend a little longer."

Others are planning for three-day weekends twice in a row.

"This is a terrible source of confusion for me because we talked about this at work, so the general consensus is to just celebrate both weekends. Take off Monday and Friday."

And some say they don't have sick days or vacation time and will celebrate Independence Day on July 4th by squeezing in some family time, food and fireworks.
