PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It may just be one of the biggest reasons for people putting on unwanted weight – not enough time to eat and eating on the run.

We live in a society where we are constantly rushing from one place to another. Part of the issue is the fact that both parents often work or families with one parent have tremendous pressure to provide support and also keep things together at home.

The bottom line is that meals become an afterthought and that is a recipe for rapid weight gain. But there are things you can do to improve things.

One of the biggest steps is to avoid fast food – and that doesn’t mean you have to avoid fast food restaurants because you can eat at a fast food restaurant and choose salad or fruit options. The key to eating on the run and avoiding weight gain is searching for fruits, vegetables and salads and avoiding carbohydrates like rolls and desserts.

If you talk to experts in the area they say one of the key steps is not making excuses and saying I am going to lose in this battle, I might as well eat poorly. So keep your spirits up and your weight down.
