Jeffrey Gaines To Perform In Old City

By Molly Daly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)- Locally based singer-songwriter Jeffrey Gaines is playing at the Tin Angel in Old City on Friday, June 29th, to celebrate the release of his new CD, "Live in Europe." KYW's Molly Daly reports fans have had to wait 8 years for a new Jeffrey Gaines album.

Gaines recorded "Live in Europe" on a tour with Joe Jackson, winning over new audiences with just his voice and an acoustic guitar, a job made harder by Jackson's insistence on no introductions.

"That's a cool thing for me, I've always enjoyed winning a crowd over from just cold to hot. You gotta get it right the first minute of the first song, they know they're gonna like the rest of you," says Jackson.

His set, and the album, opens with a David Bowie cover, "Five Years," an interesting choice for an artist with such a deep back catalogue of his own work.

"It's weird, because I perform and make music, but I'm still a fan of music and run to it, when I need to just get right," explains Gaines.
