Arrest Made In Fatal Berks County Hit-Run Accident

READING, Pa. (CBS) - Police in Berks County have arrested the man suspected of killing a three-year-old girl in a hit-and-run accident Thursday night.

Police say 18-year-old Justin Anthony Taylor of Wernersville, Pa. struck Ja'Lexy Bobet at 10th and Cotton streets in Reading a little before 7 p.m (see related story).

Witnesses reported they saw Bobet and an older girl crossing the street while holding hands. The girls took several steps off the curb before a Dodge pickup truck, allegedly driven by Taylor, traveling east on Cotton Street, failed to stop at a stop sign and struck Bobet. Bobet was taken to Reading Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police say Taylor left the scene of the accident. The Dodge was later discovered abandoned in a remote park in Lower Alsace Township, Berks County Thursday evening.

On Friday, authorities identified the driver as Taylor who is in custody pending arraignment. Authorities say Taylor does not have a license to operate a motor vehicle.
