MARGATE, N.J. (CBS) — The body that washed ashore Wednesday morning in Margate, New Jersey has been identified as 10-year-old Khitan Devine who went missing in the surf on Sunday in Atlantic City, according to authorities.
The Margate Beach Patrol says Devine’s body washed ashore just after 11 a.m. On Sunday, authorities say Devine was swimming with his sister after the lifeguards had finished work for the day. He went under and failed to surface (see related story); his sister had to be pulled from the rough surf.
The US Coast Guard and others spent much of the evening and Monday searching for the boy, to no avail (see related story).
Khitan was from North Carolina. He was in the area visiting family.
