PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It’s prison break weekend at Eastern State Penitentiary.

Lauren Zalut with Eastern State Penitentiary says this weekend staff are acting out one of the most famous attempted escapes here at the prison.

“And we’re having a debate between two actors who are portraying one, Willie Sutton and Clarence Klinedinst, who were involved in a tunnel escape in 1945; and they’re debating who the mastermind of that escape was.”

Zalut says prison escapes are a big part of prison history.

“There were 100 escapes from Eastern State Penitentiary when it was an active prison. That’s 100 escapes in 142 years of it being an active prison.”

She says all inmates were caught but one, who made it out through a ladder escape over the wall.
