Delaware Man Charged With Robbing Elderly Woman In Kmart Parking Lot

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) - A 49-year-old man was arrested after police say he robbed an elderly woman in the parking lot of a Wilmington shopping center on Friday.

The incident happened at about 4:30 p.m. in the Pike Creek Shopping Center on the 4700 block of Limestone Road.

Police say the suspect, identified as Charles Zingo, approached a 69-year-old woman as she was leaving the Kmart store in Wilmington.

Authorities say Zingo tried to wrestle the woman's purse away. The victim refused to turn over her property and engaged in a struggle with Zingo, suffering minor injuries in the process, according to police.

Zingo managed to steal the purse and then fled the parking lot, police say.

Delaware State Troopers along with officers from the New Castle County Police Department conducted a search and eventually located Zingo near Skyline Drive, a short distance from the shopping center.

Zingo tried to drive away, but officers stopped the vehicle and took him into custody without incident. He was later identified as the man who had committed the robbery.

Zingo was arrested and charged with one count of first degree robbery and was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution.
