Burlington County Construction Clerk Accused Of Stealing Public Funds

MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (CBS) – A clerk who worked in the Delanco Township construction office has been arrested for allegedly stealing public funds.

Forty-four-year-old Carla Ann Sarlo surrendered to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office on Friday morning.

Sarlo, from Cinnaminson, worked as a clerk in a construction office in Delanco Township for eight years.

She was terminated in August 2011.

Police report that Sarlo was charged with one count of third degree theft for stealing more than $1,200 in building and rental permit fee funds.

Authorities say that Sarlo collected money from 12 people for various public fees, but instead used the cash for gasoline, food, and her cellular phone bill.

It is reported that Sarlo has repayed about $941.

The case will be presented to a Burlington County Grand Jury for indictment.
