UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) - Authorities say one firefighter was hospitalized, and two others injured while battling a house fire in Upper Darby Friday afternoon.
Crews were called to the 200 block of Sheffield Road around 4 p.m. for a reported fire that damaged three homes, displacing two families.
While battling the blaze, a portion of a ceiling collapsed on three firefighters. One of them was transported to an area hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.
The two other firefighters suffered minor injuries to their backs and shoulders. The blaze was quickly placed under control, but not before leaving 11 people out of their homes. The Red Cross of Southeastern PA says one family of seven will be staying at the Red Cross House, while the other family took food and clothing assistance, but will be staying with family.
There is no word on what started the fire.
