PHILADELPHIA (CBS) –The Opera Company of Philadelphia presents “Dark Sisters” from June 8th through the 17th at the Kimmel Center.
Listen to the podcast below…
Soprano Caitlin Lynch explains that it’s a story of five women married to the same man, the prophet for the FLDS, the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and she says she’s learned a lot by performing in this program.
“[It’s been an] eye-opening experience. I did some research on these families…my character, Eliza, ends up leaving at the end. She escapes…and I read some accounts of real women who did the same,” Lynch says.
The opera is new–this is the Philadelphia debut–and Caitlin says it’s shorter than many other pieces and in English.
“The music is absolutely beautiful. It’s powerful, and everyone should hear it.”
