New Report Suggests Low-Carb Diets Not Harmful To Health
By Dr. Brian McDonough
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Low-carb, high-protein diets have been extremely popular offer the past 10 years. Many people have lost weight as a result of this, but one of the concerns has been that people who use this type of diet could potentially damage their kidneys.
Now, a new report suggests that there is probably not that negative effect.
Researchers compared the effects of a low-carb, high-protein diet vs. a standard low-fat diet on a variety of kidney-related measures. What they found was there was not more harm in those individuals who had the low-fat diet.
This is something you obviously should discuss with your physician, but it clearly shows this type of diet, the Atkins and others like it, can be potentially effective.
