A Curbside Court Returns To Manayunk This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — An enhanced effort to curtail drunken rowdiness will be in effect for a popular pro-cycling race in Philadelphia this weekend.

The Philadelphia International Cycling Championship means two things to neighbors: Hundreds of cyclists struggling up the infamous "Manayunk Wall" and hundreds of drunken spectators making a spectacle of themselves.

Uniformed and plainclothes state troopers will join Philadelphia police for a second year to curb out-of-control rowdy behavior.

And returning for a second year, a special bike race court is being set up where those arrested could find themselves in front of a judge within minutes and slapped with fines and community service.

The race is now in its 28th year.

Residents have in recent years reported rampant underage drinking and out-of-control house parties.
