Phillies Fans Reinvigorated By Uptick in Team's Performance

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies are playing a little better these days and they're only tied for last place in the division.

So, do fans believe the team has turned a corner?

"I feel that we can make a run for the playoffs, but if it's going to happen, it has to start soon," says Phillies fan Brian Weissman, of the Mayfair section of the city.

The Phillies and the slumping Braves are looking up at the rest of the National League East.  But the Phils are 11-5 over their last 16 games.  Is Weissman optimistic?

"Well, I'm not feeling any worse!" he told KYW Newsradio today.  And he notes that the Phils are only four games behind the first-place Nationals in a tight division.

"If they can get within a few games and keep it that way by the All-Star break, I feel like they can get through it and work their way through it -- as long as they stay healthy."

Maybe he should have said "get healthy," because there's no word on when Chase Utley and Ryan Howard are  returning.

And now, ace Roy Halladay is nursing a sore shoulder.

"With him being hurt, I mean, we can't afford that," Weissman says.  "That definitely would put us in a hole."
