PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police and fire personnel, the soldiers of our streets, will be honored at a Memorial Day service in Society Hill tomorrow, and all are invited.
In addition to honoring the military service men and women who died for our country, Philadelphia police and fire personnel will be recognized at the Philadelphia Korean War Memorial on Monday.
“They are the soldiers of our urban streets; they are the ones we look to for protection,” says Bill Kelly, the president of the memorial.
“When they put that uniform on and go out in the morning, they don’t know whether they are coming back anymore than someone in Afghanistan that is going out on a mission [does].”
Mr. Kelly says that all are welcome to the Memorial Day service, including police and fire personnel and their families. It starts at 11 a.m. at 2nd and Dock Streets.
