PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – With the school year winding down and summer just around the corner, many parents are looking to hire a baby sitter. And the American Red Cross offers a class for prospective babysitters to prepare them for what they may encounter.
Rachel Rose with the American Red Cross says there are many situations a babysitter may encounter, “any type of wounds; muscle, bone and joint injuries – those sorts of things, a child falls down. Or the child becomes ill…a fever or something. That’s something a baby sitter should handle.”
Rose says their course covers those crisis, CPR certification and how to interview the parents about what requirements their child will have.
“Does your child need medication? Does your child have any food allergies? Are there any special needs? What are the rules of the house? Does the child need to go to bed at a certain time? Are they allowed to watch TV? How do you handle misbehavior?”
